First Night art
Here's my preview of the arts in Boston’s First Night festivities tomorrow. Much of it’s free.
In particular, check out the Iron Guild’s “Ferrocity” from 6 to 10 p.m. on Boston Common, in which they’ll melt down old radiators to mold a web of iron matching a 1776 map of Boston streets by Henry Pelham. The castings will then be displayed against a large panel outlining the city’s present boundaries. That sounds all intellectual, but these are the same folks who did the crazy, spectacular MassArt Halloween iron pours. (The photo here is from this year’s Halloween show in Providence.)
And note that the amazing ladies of UV Protection play from 10 p.m. to midnight on the steps of the Boston Public Library’s Copley Square Branch.
